The Ratchaprasong district is Thailand’s leading commercial business centre, world-class shopping and tourist district. It combines together via connecting walkways and BTS Skytrain stations (Siam, Ratchadumri and Chidlom) a number of great shopping malls, including Central World, Gaysorn Plaza, Central Embassy. The district extends itself both eastwardly towards Siam and northwardly towards Ratchathewi, with a highlight on Platinum Fashion Mall for its wholesale fashion shopping experience. Only two BTS stations away from Nana (Maison Hotel Bangkok), this commercial district also highlights on Erawan Shrine right on a busy junction. Always teeming with worshippers as sightseers, this Hindu shrine provides a little slice of calm right at the heart of the city. A stop away from Ratchadumri is Siam, the main interchange station of BTS Skytrain system. Siam area is an ever-growing commercial districts with a mix of retail experience, from luxurious Siam Paragon hosting high end fashion stores to street and trendy fashion malls geared towards the younger audience.
Maison is not only nestled in the heart of inner Bangkok but also in the middle of one of the most vibrant neighbourhood. It combines fun-filled, exotic nightlife area with the urban and cosmopolitan melting pot of both cultures and crowds. Making its one of the most intoxicatingly unique quarters of the whole Bangkok’s cityscape. Bangkok Old Town, also known as Koh Rattanakosin, straddles the Chao Phraya River and is situated in the north east of Bangkok (around half an hour away from the hotel via taxi cab). It is where you’ll find Bangkok’s most spectacular and revered historical attractions. Not only part of the Kingdom’s rich past, but rather intrinsic to it, the area is definitely filled with shimmering, spire-shaped eye-candies on nearly every corner. Important highlights include the Grand Palace, serene yet awe-inspiring beauty of Wat Phra Kaew as well as Wat Pho where traditional Thai message is believed to originate here and Wat Mahathat. Sanam Luang, a historic park next to the Grand Palace, is traditionally used for important Royal or Buddhist ceremonies. Rattanakosin is also home to the National Gallery, where you can learn more about Thai art and history.
In the same district, towards the bank of Chao Phraya River, Thanon Phra Athit and Khao San roads are located next doors. It is known as backpacking district or the traveler hub of South East Asia. Jam-packed with raucous bars and restaurants as well as budget hostels, it’s also a favorite for late-night revelers.
Go a little down south from here, and you’ll find yourself lost in a corner of China Town. If Bangkok Old Town is the crown of Kingdom’s heritage, Chinatown of Bangkok is the jewel of the rich, local yet thriving community. Filled with nooks and corners where real life of Bangkokers takes place on a daily basis. It is here you can see and sense all the actions, right from dawn to dusk and beyond. Dotted with street food (sometimes for an entire length of the streets) and shops, hidden hipster bars and cafes and riverside restaurants, Bangkok’s Chinatown is unparalleled both in size as well as the unique authenticity and multilayered characteristics it promises.
